Linnaeus Bioscience Inc. works with clients to achieve important milestones in their antibiotic discovery and development programs. Linnaeus offers a variety of services, ranging from detailed mode of action studies of new antimicrobials to screening large chemical libraries or collections of natural products for new antibiotics.

Compound MOA determination

Using Bacterial Cytological Profiling (BCP) Linnaeus can rapidly determine the likely mode of action (MOA) of antibacterial compounds, information that is essential for advancing new compounds through the antibiotic discovery pipeline. Linnaeus can determine the MOA of compounds active against gram negative and gram positive bacteria and can determine if individual compounds have multiple MOAs. Each test can be performed in very small (<50µl) volumes, and therefore requires only small amounts of compounds.

A novel screening platform for chemical libraries

Linnaeus developed a high throughput version of BCP that allows the screening of large collections of compounds. High throughput BCP has many advantages over other screening methods because it provides excellent MOA information and is extraordinarily sensitive, capable of identifying hits below the MIC. When screening is complete, hits are identified and clustered into groups according to MOA. Immediately knowing the likely MOA for all of the hits obtained from whole-cell based screens allows programs to quickly focus development efforts on molecules that target specific, possibly novel pathways, instead of spending substantial effort sifting through thousands of hits to eliminate unwanted compounds. The combination of high sensitivity and instant MOA knowledge allows this platform to easily find new molecules with interesting activities that have previously been missed.
