BeatEM® : E-M window of individual heart beats
It is increasingly recognized that the QT interval alone is not a reliable marker of Torsade de Pointes risk. We have recently developed and validated a novel marker for TdP risk evaluation: the electro-mechanical (E-M) window.
This marker reflects the synchronization of the electrical and mechanical activity of the heart. Under normal physiological conditions the mechanical systole lasts longer than the electrical activity. Bio-Plus Safety Pharmacology has recently demonstrated that drugs with clinical TdP risk reverse these positive E-M windows.
ChallengEM® :a proarrhythmia model in guinea-pigs
Arrhythmia models represent the most direct approach to test for TdP liability of new drug candidates. In the past, the use of arrhythmia models was rather low due to practical reasons (high cost and high complexicity) and the limited set of available validation data.
ChallengEM® is a validated proarrhythmia model in anaesthetized guinea-pigs based on multiple pharmacological challenges; and has several practical advantages related to the small size of guinea-pigs.
