Chesapeake PERL, Inc. (C-PERL) is a provider of custom protein production (expression and purification) services and research products. Our primary focus is to supply proteins to biotechnology communities from our unique production platform called the PERLXpress System. Potential applications for proteins produced in the PERLXpress system include use in therapeutics, diagnostics, industrial enzymes, agriculture, bioremediation, biotechnology tools and other applications.
Our PERLXpress system combines well-established recombinant baculovirus technology with mass oral infection of synchronous Trichoplusia ni larvae. The system is efficient and reproducible which results in high levels of target protein expression. In addition, PERLXpress is highly scalable. This scalability allows for production of both pilot and commercial quantities of functional proteins. To date, a broad range of protein classes including viral antigens, esterases, virus-like particles and human growth factors. Moreover, proteins produced in the PERLXpress system have been recovered to high purity and shown to be functional when studied in animals including mice, rats, guinea pigs, sheep and monkeys.
