Extensive facilities for analytical chemistry are available in purpose built laboratories in the Centre for Biomolecular Sciences. These are currently used primarily for the study of small organic molecules and peptides such as bacterial quorum sensing signal molecules.
Sample preparation including liquid extraction, centrifugation, solid phase extraction, rotary evaporation and speedvac sample concentration are carried out. The laboratory also houses our Waters and Varian liquid chromatographs linked to a variety of UV detectors with auto samplers enabling analytical sequences.
Our Bruker ion trap mass spectrometer is interfaced via electrospray or chemical ionisation to an Agilent liquid chromatograph with UV detector and auto sampler. This enables design of a variety of qualitative and quantitative analytical experiments including positive and negative LCMS, LCMSn, using nonspecific or targeted approaches.
