Vitalea Science, Inc. was founded in 2003 by researchers from the University of California Davis, as the first U.S.-based bio-analytical CRO dedicated to providing services in pharmacokinetics and metabolism of drug candidates directly in humans and non-clinical species using Accelerated Mass Spectrometry (AMS) technology. In 2008, the company moved to its current 7,500 sqft GLP facility in Davis, California and installed the world’s only purpose built AMS instrument designed to meet the specific needs of the pharmaceutical industry. The company was acquired by Eckert & Ziegler in mid 2013 (www.ezag.com).

AMS was originally developed in low energy physics labs for 14C dating. More recently, this technology has been proven to be a powerful tool for the pharmaceutical industry during early clinical development of new drug entities. The ability to accurately and reproducibly quantify “micro” quantities of radio-labeled compounds in biological samples enables critical portfolio decisions while reducing reliance on marginally relevant animal models.
